A Message from the Team Captain
The LASD Elite Running Team took a brief break due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the cancelation of races.
In September, 2021, many of our runners participated in the Surf City Half Marathon. This was the first race for most of our runners since March, 2020. From that race forward, our runners have either continued or begun their training toward winning a championship at the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay in 2022.
Some of our runners choose to train for and run marathons during their training. While waiting for local races to resume, some of our runners ran marathons in Berlin, Germany, Boston, Massachusetts and St. George, Utah.
In October, 2021, our team participated in the Inaugural First Responders Relay in Henderson, Nevada. This race consisted of 9 legs raced around Lake Mead. Our team held the lead from the beginning and built our lead to 11:30 minutes after 6 legs. Due to poor markings on the course, our final runner was not able to stay on course. He got lost, and ended up running an additional 3 miles. Even with the mishap, we still finished second overall.
Our team is looking forward to racing in 2022. We will be running a series of 5K and 10K races hosted by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Athletic Association (LASAA) in preparation for the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay.
2022 is our year for a Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay championship!!
