Frequently Asked Questions
How can I join the team?
Must be either a sworn or civilian (non-sworn) member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. All members of the Department are encouraged to train and try out for the team. The best method to join is to participate in the LASSA Mug Run Series to see how you stack up against the fastest in the County. It’s a great opportunity to meet current members of the team.
What kind of training program do you follow?
Most runners follow their own training regimen in the months leading up to Baker to Vegas. The majority of the team are veteran runners with high school, collegiate, and race experience. The coaches often tell the runners to “do what works for you.” Some of the runners are avid Crossfit athletes, cyclists, marathoners, and endurance sports athletes.
How do I qualify for the Baker to Vegas Team?
Qualifying for the team is based on the results earned from the Mug Run Series - Men’s Central Jail. This is where the runners showcase their endurance, running skills, and efforts put into training during the off-season. The run is 5.8 miles through the sprawling hills surrounding the LAPD Academy and Dodger Stadium. This run is not for the faint of heart.

How can I help if I don't want to participate as a runner?
Without the tremendous amount of support our runners receive, our past results would have been unobtainable. Volunteers are always welcome. Please contact us using the form on our site.
